چکیده

Although CMOS Time-of-Flight Range Image Sensors have been recently realized, the fabrication process is modified by inserting an extra mask layer to allow efficient TOF dependent charge transfer. This work focuses on the selection procedure of amplifiers to be used in the design of the TOF pixel using the standard CMOS process. From our analysis, it is found that the Cascode amplifier is the best amplifier to be used when compared to three other amplifiers. Simulation results show that the Cascode amplifier has a Charge Transfer Efficiency of 95.08% and power dissipation of 1.32μW, which enables the same charge transfer mechanism required for TOF imaging.

Charge Transfer Noise and Lag in CMOS Active Pixel Sensors

This paper reports on the investigation of charge-transfer noise and lag in CMOS image sensors. Noise and lag are analyzed for buried-photodiode CMOS active-pixel-sensor (APS) devices using a simple Monte-Carlo technique. Since the main mechanism of charge-transfer noise involves carrier emission over a barrier, the results are applicable to the soft reset of photodiode-type CMOS APS devices, a...

A CMOS Active Pixel Image Sensor with In-pixel CDS for High-Speed Cameras

This paper presents a high-speed CMOS image sensor whose frame rate exceeds 2000 frames/s. The pixel includes a photodiode, a charge-transfer amplifier, and circuitry for correlated double sampling (CDS) and global electronic shuttering. Reset noise, which is a major random noise factor, is reduced by the CDS combined with the charge-transfer amplifier. The total number of devices in the pixel ...

Experimental Comparison of Four Different CMOS Pixel Architectures Used in Indirect Time-of-Flight Distance Measurement Sensors

Four different pixel architectures to be used in CMOS based indirect time-of-flight (ToF) rangers were designed, fabricated and characterised. The measured results are presented here for their direct comparison. Sharing a very similar, yet case optimised readout circuitry in each case, three fabricated CMOS rangers were based respectively on a pinned photodiode (PPD), a photogate, and a newly d...

Frame-Transfer CMOS Active Pixel Sensor with Pixel Binning

The first frame-transfer CMOS active pixel sensor (APS) is reported. The sensor architecture integrates an array of active pixels with an array of passive memory cells. Charge integration amplifier-based readout of the memory cells permits binning of pixels for variable resolution imaging. A 32 32 element prototype sensor with 24m pixel pitch was fabricated in 1.2m CMOS and demonstrated.
